Plot summary
Benny's summer is spent away from San Diego, at his grandmother's place on the Navajo reservation in Arizona. His cousin Fry is there as well, and the two adolescents come from different worlds. Herding sheep is the summer's work, and the flock keeps the cousins out on the ranch together. The summer gives the cousins time to learn about their family's past and about themselves.
