Plot summary
Lola and Masetto are engaged in northern Italy, but they come from different worlds. Masetto belongs to a wealthy family that owns a bakery and wants to expand it. His mother cares deeply about social appearances, while Lola is free-spirited, and her mother, Zaira, once worked as a stewardess on the Normandie and now lives with André, a former chef from the same ship. Masetto refuses to have sex with Lola before marriage, yet he seeks out other women, including prostitutes. Lola cannot stand the wait. She tries to draw his attention with provocative behavior and daring walks, but her first attempt in the bakery storeroom is interrupted by Masetto's apprentice, and a second attempt by the riverbank also fails.
