Plot summary
Monsieur Tessier and his wife Madame Catherine Tessier run the Institute of French Studies in Paris, where a group of American students enroll for a year of study. Laura keeps to herself much of the time, touring museums and galleries and mailing postcards to the boyfriend back home who chose not to come along. Alex is more interested in love and life in the city than in his lessons, and he starts an affair with his teacher, Madame Tessier, who co-directs the Institute. Joel cannot make up his mind, and that makes things hard when he falls for Toni, who works at a local bookstore.
