Plot summary
Late 1945. As Jews and Socialists begin returning to their home countries, others are desperate to reach Argentina under Perón, among them SS Obersturmbannführer Viktor Voss. His wife dies just as he comes home, leaving him with a young daughter, Emma, and no one to raise her. He turns to Eva, a Jewish pianist who survived Auschwitz, and pulls her out of further violence. Their route is the one thousands of homeless displaced persons use, and the one other Nazi criminals take to reach safety. Voss, Eva and Emma set out together, crossing the Alps into South Tyrol and on to the port of Genoa, where a ship waits to carry them toward South America.
