Plot summary
Laxdale is a farming town, and it is failing. A company that presents itself as a Dutch oil firm arrives, buys a local farming operation and offers the people who live there jobs. The buyers are not oil men at all. They are aliens from outer space, disguised as executives, and Viergacht is their leader. What they want the farmland for is crop circles: rings in the fields that are meant to raise the temperature of the earth, part of a plan to make the whole planet a resort for extra-terrestrials. Bill Swanson, a resident of the town, is the reluctant hero.
