Scott Hylands
Biography
Scott Hylands was a Canadian actor who worked in film, television, and theater. Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, he switched from zoology into the new theater arts program at the University of British Columbia and graduated in 1964, then moved to New York City, where he was cast as the lead in Billy Liar, an off-Broadway comedy, in 1965. His film debut came in the 1969 suspense film Daddy's Gone A-Hunting, which drew positive reviews but was overshadowed by Midnight Cowboy. He became known on American television for tough guy and villain roles, appearing in Cannon, The Waltons, Kung Fu, Baretta, and Ironside. He later worked in Canada, playing leading roles at the Stratford Festival and starring as Detective Kevin O'Brien in the police drama Night Heat from 1985 to 1989, with further credits including To Catch a Killer, NYPD Blue, The Outer Limits, and the stage production Waiting for Godot. Critics called him one of Canada's greatest actors.
