Plot summary
Yasue Sato runs the yakiniku restaurant Negishi-en by herself, the only thing her late husband left her, and her son Yoshito grows up on the food she cooks there. When the critic Furuyama Tatsuya writes an untrue article about the restaurant, the customers fall away, and Yasue works to bring them back. Yoshito, wanting his mother less busy and more often with him, behaves in a way that leads her to close the restaurant. Eighteen years on, Yoshito lives alone as a freelance writer and takes an assignment from the editor Shizuka Takenaka: a new website about real food, starting with yakiniku. While he struggles with the work, word reaches him that his mother, from whom he is estranged, has collapsed.
