Plot summary
Sayaka Kudo wears miniskirts and keeps her hair dyed blonde, and as a second-year high school student her schoolwork sits at the level of a fourth-grader. She has moved between schools without making friends, and a suspension follows when she is caught with cigarettes. Her mother enrolls her at Seiho Cram School, where the tutor Yoshitaka Tsubota learns how far behind she is and decides to get her into Keio University, one of the hardest schools in Japan to enter. Sayaka's father calls her an air-head and tells her mother the cram school is taking advantage of them, and a teacher at her high school expects her to fail. Sayaka sets out to study hard and prove them wrong.

Nobutaka Tsubota, who wrote the book the film is based on, was the director of a private school. He wrote about his real-life pupil Sayaka Kobayashi, who went from having only a fourth-grade elementary school level of knowledge to qualifying for Keio University in just 1.5 years.
