Plot summary
In 1969, Nat, a fly of eleven years, and his two closest friends, I.Q. and Scooter, build a small rocket in a field opposite Cape Canaveral, where Apollo 11 waits on its launch pad. Nat's grandfather Amos has long filled his head with tales of his own exploits, among them saving Amelia Earhart during her solo Atlantic crossing in 1932. Wanting a life like that, Nat persuades his reluctant friends to get on board the Moon rocket. The three slip into Launch Control and hide inside the astronauts' helmets. Their families hear that the young flies will be away in space for a week. Soviet flies, refusing to be beaten to the Moon, ready their own operatives, among them Yegor.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Fly Me to the Moon 3D (2008)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Charles Rocket's final film role was in Fly Me to the Moon, fittingly a film about rockets; he voiced Mission Control in the 1961 scenes. The film was released three years after his death in 2005.
- Because IMAX 3-D films usually run an hour or less, the IMAX release of Fly Me to the Moon cut and censored scenes, including Nat and Amos discussing Amelia Earhart and the entire Soviet subplot.
