Plot summary
Lucy Ralston, a branding executive, comes home to Pinewood, Connecticut for Christmas with her siblings Will and Amber, her grandmother Margo and her grandfather Walter. Her father Ted, a retired park ranger, has put his money into turning the house into the Ralston Inn, and no one has booked for the holidays. Two travelers arrive: Beth Thompson, traveling to Maine to see relatives, and geologist Jake Finlay, who is in the area for field work and whom Lucy met in town. Lucy believes Beth is really Bea Turner, the reviewer whose word can make an inn's reputation, so she assigns the family roles as guests and staff to win her over. Lucy and Jake spend time together, and the charade keeps her from telling him the truth.
