Plot summary
The French volcanologists Katia Krafft and Maurice Krafft are a couple joined by love for each other and by a shared obsession with volcanoes. Across two decades of fieldwork they sought out the planet's most explosive phenomena and stood perilously close to fiery eruptions. The pair seek scientific discovery and breathtaking imagery, and the risks they take to obtain those images push the boundaries of safety. The documentary follows their lives and their careers, using rare archival footage, a narrator and a narrative shaped by the French New Wave, and it explores what their shared commitment to the planet's volatile beauty means to them.
