Plot summary
Marjorie is getting into her car at night when a masked man pulls a knife and makes her drive to a lonely place, where he tries to force himself on her. She gets away but leaves her purse behind. At the police station she learns that without a positive identification they can do almost nothing, and that it would be her word against his. She lives in fear after that. The man uses what her purse holds, and the mail he takes from the house she shares with Pat and Terry, to learn how she lives. One morning, with Pat and Terry at work, he lets himself in, claiming to be after someone who owes him money.
