Plot summary
In an undisclosed part of Florida, Gail Bowers is in the grip of malevolent forces, and those around her have found no way to settle the trouble. Father Thomas Bates is the priest who is asked to help. Clark and Anne Pederson bring him the case. Clark, a worker for Blackthorn Industries, describes the problems the neighborhood faces because of Gail's possessions, and says medical science has made no amends. Father Bates goes to her home and begins an exorcism, using what powers are available to him. The service meets resistance, and the forces inside Gail push back against the priest.
