Plot summary
The late 1800s bring the railroad to Pratbell, an isolated village in inner Catalonia, and progress arrives with it. So does Oleguer, a loan shark who preys on the masia of Cileta's family. He seizes the farmhouse and settles inside it, leaving Cileta and her household without a home. The young peasant sets out to get the house back, ready to follow the money-lender's own path to do it, and she starts to learn how money corrupts.
