Plot summary
Frank Fogle's wife has died, and she asked that her ashes be scattered in a remote lake back in Ireland, the country where she was born. Frank sets out to carry out that wish, and he wants his estranged son, Sean, beside him. Sean leaves prison with plans for a fresh start in California, not a long drive with the father he has grown distant from. When his own travel arrangements fall apart, he agrees to come along, on the condition that after the trip the two men need never meet again. In Ireland, an old flame of his wife comes back into view, and a hitchhiker they pick up has plans of her own.
