Plot summary
The BusBoys open with a song over pre-show footage of Eddie Murphy on the road with his crew, and Murphy thanks them before starting his own set. The performance was taped in Washington, D.C., in August 1983. He talks about ice cream trucks and the pull they have on children, who buy from them and then sing in front of kids who cannot afford anything; about family cookouts, where an aunt-in-law and an uncle at the grill take over the backyard; and about the shoes his mother threw while disciplining him. His impressions take in Michael Jackson, James Brown, Stevie Wonder and Mick Jagger, and he also covers racism, Reaganomics and AIDS, with a routine that plays Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton as a same-sex couple.
