Plot summary
Marshall Thomas, who designs advertising in Los Angeles, and Gabe Horton, who owns a cafe, have been partners for seven years and have fallen into a rut. Gabe has little time for him, and Marshall is frustrated by a dead-end job. As his thirtieth birthday approaches, Marshall finds a phone application called eCupid and installs it despite the warnings, without reading what he is agreeing to. The application, which speaks in the voice of Venus, takes over his phone and his computer, and through them his life. It begins arranging encounters and situations meant to give Marshall the fun, the romance and the freedom he believes he has been missing.
