Plot summary

At Echo Valley, the horse farm she runs in southern Pennsylvania, Kate is grieving the death of her wife, Patty, in a riding accident and struggling to keep the place running. Needing nine thousand dollars to replace a roof, she turns to her ex-husband, Richard, an attorney, who supplies the money but scolds her for spending it on their daughter, Claire, whose drug addiction has taken her through rehab more than once. One night Claire turns up at the farm and, after arguing with her boyfriend, Ryan, goes off with him. A violent drug dealer, Jackie Lawson, then confronts Claire about a stash of his drugs that she threw into a river, and attacks her. Kate steps in and threatens to call the police.
