Plot summary
Sam Isaac, an Indian Christian from Mumbai, takes a job at a nuclear waste plant in Mauritius and moves there with his wife Mahi. Mahi, who lost a pregnancy to miscarriage, is expecting their second child. In an antique shop she buys a Jewish box that once belonged to the last Jew in Mauritius, and soon she sees a ghostly woman in the house asking for Ezra. Sam believes the sightings are her imagination. A priest who visits the couple says Mahi may be possessed because she opened the box, and sends Sam to Rabbi Benyamin. Benyamin tells him that a dybbuk was used in ancient times to capture spirits, and introduces his son, Rabbi Markus.
