Plot summary

The family business at Down Terrace, a house in Brighton, is on the rocks, and Bill wants to know who informed on him before he went to prison. His wife Maggie helps him look for the informer among the criminals who work out of the house. Their son Karl has just come home with his father and is uneasy with the household around him. His uncle Eric and Bill's employee Garvey are part of the crew. Karl's girlfriend Valda arrives visibly pregnant, and the dinner he holds for her to meet his parents goes badly: his parents object to the marriage he announces and ask for a paternity test.
