Plot summary
Tra and Gar, a brother and sister of a prehistoric tribe, feed on the tribe's young people to keep their youth, and their mother, Petranella, curses them for it. The curse holds them in old age with no chance of death, and only ends after 12,000 years, when one of them conceives a child to be sacrificed as a virgin. Millennia later the two stalk young victims in a Los Angeles park. Gar takes the name Mark, rents a room from a young woman, marries her and fathers a daughter, Bondi, whose welfare becomes his obsession. The marriage falls apart, and on Bondi's sixteenth birthday he gives her an ancient amulet and leaves the party. Bondi runs away and hitches a ride with three men.
