Plot summary
Doc Holliday, a dentist who left Atlanta for the dry air of the West because of his tuberculosis, meets Katie Elder at a saloon on the road toward Tombstone, Arizona, and wins her from Ike Clanton at cards for a night. They travel on together, and he tells her he hopes to find his old friend Wyatt Earp, the deputy marshal of Cochise County, who is campaigning for sheriff. In Tombstone, Katie takes work in a brothel while Doc plays cards. Earp comes to him with a plan to grow rich once he holds office, with Doc running the gambling in town. That night Earp pistol whips Ike Clanton and drives him from the saloon.
