Dan van Husen

Biography

Dan van Husen was a German actor who began his career in the 1960s after Italian producers spotted him while he was a disc jockey at a Spanish club. He played in a number of Spaghetti Westerns and was usually cast as the villain, appearing in more than 24 Italo Westerns between 1968 and 1974. He later took diverse roles in Italian and German cinema, including Fellini Casanova by Federico Fellini and Werner Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979), and worked steadily in German television series such as Derrick and Alarm für Cobra 11. In the 2000s he moved into Hollywood productions, including Enemy at the Gates (2001) and Hart's War, and in 2008 he appeared in the Dutch World War II film Winter in Wartime. He also acted in Cold and Dark and was honored with a lifetime achievement award for Western films in 2011. He died in 2020.
