Plot summary
In Ahmedabad, Dharampal Trivedi runs a catering business and shares a Gujarati Hindu household with his wife Indira and their two grown children. He is derisive toward Muslims, plays old songs by the vanished Punjabi singer Manjeet Manchala to drown out the prayers from the neighboring mosque, and argues regularly with his neighbor Nawab, whose vintage car he scrapes in the narrow street. His son Amit wants to marry Shraddha, and her father follows a godman named Neelanand, so Amit asks Dharampal to become spiritual too. Opening his late mother's bank locker, Dharampal finds adoption papers from 1960 and goes to the orphanage. There the records tell him he was born into a Muslim family, and he decides to keep the discovery secret.
