Plot summary
Luddy is recently released from prison and taken in by Richard and his wife Ellen at South Hall, a decaying Tennessee plantation owned by Ellen's aunt Delilah. Ellen discovers Luddy's prison records but lets her stay as housekeeper. Delilah, who is dying and uses a wheelchair, calls a family dinner with her brothers Alonzo and Morgan and her sister Grace. She announces that a $600,000 fortune is hidden somewhere on the property; her father acquired it by selling his racehorses, burning his barn, and collecting the insurance. Delilah says whoever finds the money can keep it. As relatives search, an ax-wielding killer begins hunting them.
