Plot summary
Louis Beauvoir is a private investigator known as l'Œil. He trails Catherine Leiris, a serial killer who seduces men in country after country in Western Europe, murders them and moves on under one false name after another, among them Lucie Brentano and Ève Granger. He is obsessed with her, and he imagines that she is the daughter he lost long ago. Instead of handing her over to the police, he follows her and disposes of the corpses she leaves, so that the trail she makes will not lead to her. The police are hunting whoever is killing the rich men.
