Plot summary
Kuljeet Kaur paid for Nitin Bankar's education, and he drives and serves her in Singapore, unpaid, until the debt is cleared; her dog makes his days harder. He loves Anjali Kakkad, whose father will not allow the match. Ram Mishra, a courier, hopes to marry Manpreet Oberoi. Out of money and out of options, the two men book a room at the Pan Pacific Hotel and plan to carry off Kuljeet's dog for a ransom. Elsewhere, Harbans Chaddha, deep in debt and under investigation for check kiting, wants his son married for the dowry. A crime boss, Maamu, sends his assassin, Kaala Krishna Murari, after Moosa Hirapurwala, who hides from his wife in a hotel room booked under another name.

- The theme song "Paisa Paisa" helped police find a lost, mentally challenged child: officers were told the child kept humming the song, even though De Dana Dan itself did not do as well as expected at the box office.
- The film was shot in Singapore, mainly at the Pan Pacific Hotel, but the climax was filmed in Mumbai at Film City, Goregaon, where a replica of the Singapore hotel was built for it.
- The theme song "Paisa Paisa" was based on Usher's hit "Yeah". Punjabi singer Manak-e had recorded it years earlier, and Akshay Kumar asked for it to be re-composed and re-released by RDB with Hindi and Punjabi lyrics.
- Before De Dana Dan opened, a version of its theme song "Paisa Paisa" was used in the election campaign in the Indian state of Jharkhand.
