Plot summary

Ushio Shinohara paints with boxing gloves soaked in paint and builds oversized motorcycles from cardboard. He and Noriko, his wife, are both from Japan and live in Brooklyn, where money has long been tight. Noriko is more than twenty years younger than him. She gave up her own art career to raise their son Alex and to work unpaid as his assistant, receptionist and cook. In her comic-book narrative, a character named Cutie arrives in New York and falls for Bullie, an older artist with no money. Noriko wants an identity of her own.
