Plot summary
In 1984, Anvil played the Super Rock festival in Japan on a bill with Scorpions, Whitesnake and Bon Jovi. Those bands went on to sell millions of records; Anvil did not. Steve 'Lips' Kudlow now drives a delivery truck for Children's Choice Catering, hauling food to schools and other institutions, and Robb Reiner, the drummer, works in construction. Both would rather be on stage at a local sports bar, playing to their small, loyal crowd, as they do for Kudlow's fiftieth birthday. Then a European fan, Tiziana Arrigoni, emails to offer a European tour at around fifteen hundred euros a show, beginning at the Sweden Rock festival.

- Director Sacha Gervasi's connection to Anvil began in 1982, when he introduced himself to the band after a London gig as "England's number-one Anvil fan"; he became their roadie on three tours, earned the nickname "Teabag," and reunited with them twenty years later to start filming the documentary in 2005.
- Singer Steve "Lips" Kudlow said Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson personally stopped him at Heathrow Airport to say the film had inspired him to keep playing music, thanking Kudlow repeatedly for the encouragement.
- After the documentary came out, Anvil got a genuine career revival: a slot at Download Festival 2009, support tours with AC/DC and Saxon, a Tonight Show appearance with Conan O'Brien, and a full 2010 US tour.
