Plot summary
Van Morgan Duff, a convict, plans a large-scale prison break. The breakout leaves six survivors hiding in a forgotten mine near the prison. Duff is wounded and too weak to travel on his own, so he offers the men a share of the money from his last robbery, which he hid, if they help him reach the place where he stashed it. The others are Luther Remsen, a reverend turned religious fanatic, the killers Pete Mendoza and Monk Collins, the young Billy Lang and the embezzler Joe Quinn. They agree to help him.
