Plot summary
Long before he races sailboats, Mike Plant treks across South America alone, escapes a drug trafficking charge and serves time in a Portuguese prison. He arrives in the professional sport in the mid-1980s and takes on the French, who have long ruled single-handed racing. He enters the 1986-87 BOC Challenge as an underdog. In the BOC Challenge and the Vendée Globe he sails the world's oceans by himself, his campaigns chronically underfunded and undermanned. Coyote, the radically designed vessel he creates, sits at the edge of speed and safety. Archival footage and interviews with sailors, journalists and members of his family carry the account.
