Plot summary
Howard and Michele Hall are a married pair of underwater photographers. Their ten-month expedition takes them among the islands of the South Pacific with large-format cameras, recording the condition of coral reefs. The first stop is Australia's Great Barrier Reef, and the journey continues to a village in Fiji where the residents depend on a reef. On their dives they find reefs thick with exotic life and also wide areas of bleached coral. Researchers studying reefs and working to protect them meet the couple along the route, and Rusi Vulakoro, a Fijian dive guide who also sings, leads them through Fijian waters. The bleached stretches they see turn the couple toward speaking out about the state of the oceans.
