Plot summary
Nine-year-old Travis Knight saw a mob killing in Texas and was placed in federal witness protection in Oklahoma. Two hired killers, Cohen and Tate, seize him and drive him toward their employers in Houston, where he is likely to be killed. Cohen, the older of the pair, is a jaded professional who still holds a little humanity; Tate is younger, hotheaded and brutish, and the two men grate on each other. When Travis learns from Cohen where he is being taken, he uses his guile and resourcefulness to tangle his captors and set one against the other, hoping to survive the journey.
