Plot summary
In 1985 Richard, a town planning student, visits his older sister Natalie, whom he hardly knows because the two grew up separately. Natalie has just broken up with her boyfriend and is unhappy in her job; when Richard tries to lighten her mood, she kisses him and then apologizes, saying she only wanted someone to hold. Six years on, Richard's career is thriving while Natalie's has stalled, and she is married to Sinclair Bryant, a rich and powerful stock analyst. Richard visits the couple and gets along well with Sinclair. Soon afterward Natalie arrives at Richard's apartment, and the brother and sister stop resisting what has been building between them.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Close My Eyes (1991)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The film is largely a grand-scale reworking of Poliakoff's earlier stage play Hitting Town: the main plot remains one of brother and sister incest, and the film re-uses some of the play's lines in dialogue between the two characters.
- The grand party that stages the film's climax was shot at Polesden Lacey in Bookham, Surrey, and the final scenes along the river are at Henley-on-Thames, away from the London Docklands where most of the film was made.
- Close My Eyes had a limited theatrical release from 6 September 1991, but did not reach television until Channel 4 showed it in its Film on Four strand more than two years later, on 28 October 1993.
- Beyond its central relationship, the film also covers the chaos of the initial stages of the London Docklands development, the late 1980s recession and attitudes towards AIDS.
