Plot summary
Chow Ti works construction and lives with his nine-year-old son Dicky Chow in a partially demolished house. Ti saves what he can to keep the boy in private school, where Dicky is bullied by a classmate named Johnny and scolded by teachers for his shabby clothes. In a department store Dicky begs for CJ1, a popular robotic toy; his father cannot afford it, and Ti hits the boy in front of other customers. A passerby, Ms. Yuen, comforts Dicky. That night Ti searches the junkyard where he collects appliances and clothes, and finds a green orb left behind by a space saucer. He brings it home as a toy. The orb turns into a small dog-like alien that befriends Dicky, and when it restores a rotten apple, the delighted boy names it CJ7.
