Plot summary
By 2020 pollution has stripped the world above ground of anything living, and the survivors have moved beneath it. There, one of the few remaining pleasures is a drug sold as chips that plug straight into the brain. Lori, who works as a bodyguard, takes a case of those chips from Los Angeles and sets out for what is left of New York City, carrying them past both the police and the gangs. She travels with Danner, a bio-mechanical android built as a companion, whose long hair is tied back. Behind them comes Plughead, a criminal whose scalp is covered in sockets and ports that let him sample the chips he wants and reach into other people's minds.
