Plot summary
In London, Monica Strong and her married lover, Harry Rawlinson, go to a scavenger hunt hosted by Monica's aunt, Carrie Valentine, who sets the tie-breaking challenge. The women must bring a man who has been faithful for more than five years of marriage; the men must bring a woman past twenty who has never been in love. Monica goes to fetch her father, Sir Christopher Strong, devoted to her mother. At the party he meets Lady Cynthia Darrington, an aviator, and she takes him flying.

- Planned under the working title A Great Desire, Christopher Strong was originally intended as a vehicle for Ann Harding and Leslie Howard.
- Christopher Strong gave Katharine Hepburn her first chance to develop her screen image as an independent modern woman, and it was the only time in her film career that she played the "other woman".
- Director Dorothy Arzner and playwright Zoë Akins based the character of Cynthia on British aviator Amy Johnson; in the source novel, Cynthia is a racing driver rather than a flier.
- An image of Katharine Hepburn in the film, wearing her aviator's flight suit, was used on the poster for Led Zeppelin's North American Tour of 1975.
- The film used newsreel footage of takeoffs for the round-the-world Dole Air Race and of the ticker tape parade celebrating Charles Lindbergh's transatlantic flight.
