Plot summary
By day Alois Novák works as a minor clerk at a travel agency. Marenka is his wife, and the life the two of them lead is dull and ordinary, while he nurses a wish for adventure that nothing in it satisfies. Once every month he puts on a disguise and becomes Kristian, a wealthy and mysterious stranger who appears at the exclusive Orient Bar. There he spends freely on tips and pays platonic court to the elegant women of the salon. He tells them about love and about the faraway lands he claims to have seen on his travels, though every detail comes from the brochures of the agency where he works.
