Plot summary
At seventeen, Petr has his first job: watching the aisles of a self-service grocery store for shoplifters. His employer tells him he is too conspicuous and gives him only basic instructions. Petr spots a man he believes is stealing but is too nervous to confront him, and trails him through the streets instead. At home his father, who has had a visit from the shop manager, presses him on what he did and why he let the man go. Petr likes Pavla, and at a dancehall he cannot manage the popular steps. Čenda and Zdeněk, apprentice bricklayers, harass the pair.
