Plot summary
Marcus Marakovich coaches on a minor league basketball team in Iowa. He shoves the head coach and loses the job, then crashes into a police car while drunk. Given a choice between jail and community service, he takes the service, which assigns him to coach The Friends, a team whose players have learning disabilities. The team practices at a rec center managed by Julio, with Sonny helping as an assistant coach and Phil, a fellow coach, as a friend of Marcus. Alex is the sister of the player Johnny, and she and Marcus have crossed paths before. Marcus is resistant to the whole arrangement.
