Plot summary
On the night of May 6, 1918, Brooklyn police interrupt men stealing fur clothing in an alley, a trap young Al Capone set so he could ambush the officers. The brawl throws him through a glass window and leaves his left cheek scarred, and a senior lieutenant's word gets him released without charges. Brought to see racketeers Johnny Torrio and Frankie Yale, he learns the fur thieves worked for them and is invited into the Five Points Gang. A year later, Torrio presses his boss, Big Jim Colosimo, to pour money into bootlegging now that Prohibition is coming; Colosimo refuses. Torrio has Capone sent to Chicago as an enforcer, where he is introduced to the outfit's people, among them the dancer and barmaid Iris Crawford.

- Director Steve Carver said Ben Gazzara jumped the cue on the set of Capone, pulling the trigger of a submachine gun too early, which set off a chain of events that sent stuntmen and cars out of control.
SPOILER
Promoted as a faithful reenactment of Al Capone's life, the film invents Iris Crawford (Susan Blakely) as his love interest, never mentions Capone's wife and daughter, and has Frank Nitti (Sylvester Stallone) eulogize Capone at his funeral, though the real Capone outlived Nitti by several years.- Director Steve Carver said Capone was shot in part so Roger Corman could reuse footage from other films he had made, and that screenwriter Howard Browne was factual but weak on dialogue, so other writers were brought in.
