Plot summary
Maria Callas spends her days in her Paris apartment, seeing almost no one. Larry Kelly, a music promoter and her longtime friend, is in the city with a punk rock band and comes to call, but Callas refuses him because a Japanese tour he arranged ended in performances she was unhappy with. He talks his way in and lays out a project. She would star in filmed versions of her great opera roles, with her voice supplied by her best old recordings. Callas objects that she can bring nothing new to parts she has sung hundreds of times, then agrees to one, Bizet's Carmen, a role she never sang on stage, only recorded. Journalist Sarah Keller, her confidante, backs the plan.
