Plot summary

Twenty-five years after she first hit the road, Lonnie goes looking for the women who shared that youthful journey and meets new people along the route. The trip is also meant to mend old wounds, to see old friends again and to put the community on record. Through interviews with Deadheads old and new, she works against the stereotypes that cling to the band's followers and shows what the group has given its members. She was seventeen when she left, convinced that violence and pain were all life had in store for her. The fans she talks to describe what the music did for them, the comfort they drew from it, and the memories they keep.
