Plot summary
In 1976, armed political conflict divides daily life in Jamaica. Bob Marley, the reggae singer and songwriter of the Wailers, says he will play the Smile Jamaica Concert to press for peace between the warring groups. As the show approaches, he, his wife Rita and the other Wailers are shot by assailants. Both are treated in a hospital and are well enough to appear. Marley goes ahead with the performance. Distressed that men from his own island had shot him and Rita, he sends her and their children to Delaware and travels with the band to England to record the next two albums.
