Plot summary

Documentary and reenactment overlap in a portrait of protest across three periods of Hong Kong and Chinese history. In the 1970s, a young couple risk their lives to swim across the Shenzhen border and reach Hong Kong during the Cultural Revolution, while an elderly man keeps up his morning swim in Victoria Harbour through a No. 8 typhoon. University students travel to Beijing in May 1989 for the pro-democracy movement, among them Lam Yiu-keung, then head of the Hong Kong Federation of Students. Raymond Young, sixteen, is arrested in the 1967 riots over seditious slogans and writes under the name Shek Chung-ying. The 2019 protests and the occupation of the Legislative Council also appear, and Kelvin Tam Kwan-Long, a social work student, tells a court he is a Hongkonger, not Chinese.
