Plot summary
Saint Elizabeth's, an elite Catholic girls' school with a chapel and dormitories, sits beside Winchester, a private school for young men, in the town of Coopers Bay. Sister Mary-Ellen keeps watch over her charges there, Virginia Sheffield has arrived as the new headmistress, and her husband Myles teaches science. Tension between the Winchester boys and local youths flares at Coopers Beach and again at a school dance, where fire hoses are used. Couples slip away into the forest that separates the two schools, and students begin turning up dead in the woods. Kevin Lynch, a local boy, has an interest in Mary Huston, a Saint Elizabeth's student whose mother is an actress in California, and the killer's attention has settled on the pair.
