Plot summary
Peter Donay and his wife, Delilah, run the Café Donay, a Continental restaurant on the highway linking Reno and Lake Tahoe. Peter chases Sally Murfin, who works in the dining room and is drawn to his money and his business. Delilah learns of the pursuit and decides to wait, expecting Sally to marry her fiancé, Freddie Bilson, before matters go further. Because Freddie earns too little at a gas station to wed, Delilah arranges a job for him at the café and a free room over the garage, thinking his presence will come between her husband and Sally. Freddie buys extra lottery tickets hoping to win. The $40,000 prize is Peter's, and Sally, who brushed off his attentions before, suddenly turns on the charm, with an eye on furs and a rich life in New York City.
