Plot summary
Hugues de Montalembert is an artist and filmmaker living in New York when two young assailants attack him in 1978 and take his sight. He narrates his own account of what followed, and blurred images made for the film accompany his words rather than plainly recorded ones. He describes the despair that came with blindness and the new way of going through life he worked out, one in which ordinary things are made to seem extraordinary. He kept traveling the world alone, learning to navigate life without vision, and his account widens into the question of what perception itself is.
