Plot summary
Ken Tani, a CIA agent known as Black Eagle, is on vacation with his children when his handler, Dean Rickert, calls him back. An F-111 carrying a laser guidance system has gone down in the sea near Malta, and Soviet forces in the region want it too. Rickert sends agent Steve Henderson first and then hands the job to Tani, who is flown to Malta, where he meets his sons, Brian and Denny, and fellow agent Patricia Parker. A Jesuit priest, Father Joseph Bedelia, assists him. Posing as oceanographers, the two men locate the wreck. Colonel Vladimir Klimenko directs the Soviet search, and his top soldier, Andrei, serves under him.
