Plot summary
Black Belt Jones is a martial artist for hire who now mostly teaches at the karate dojo his friend Pop Byrd runs. The Mafia has learned that a civic center is planned and has bought every parcel at the site except the dojo, which Pop refuses to sell. The Don turns to Pinky, a drug dealer who owes the organization $250,000 that he laundered and then lent to Pop to get the dojo built. Pinky is told to recover the money or take the property. Pop asks Jones to help protect the school, and Jones and the students drive off the thugs Pinky sends to intimidate them.

- Jim Kelly, a Paris, Kentucky-born athlete who could have played professional football, signed a three-film deal with Warner Bros. Pictures right after finishing Enter the Dragon, and Black Belt Jones was filmed soon after.
- Black Belt Jones gave Jim Kelly his first starring role, as the title character, after he had only a supporting part in Robert Clouse's Enter the Dragon.
- The film later gained a cult film status, though reviewers at the time criticized Jim Kelly for trying to be too much like Bruce Lee.
